What is your specialism?

I’m a private client solicitor also sometimes known as an inheritance lawyer, or a wills, trust & probate lawyer.

What qualifications and experience do you have?

I have been a qualified private client solicitor since 2005. I also have a professional qualification from STEP which means I have specialist qualifications and experience, relating to estate administration, trust, wills and inheritance tax.

What type of work do you do on a day-to-day basis?

  • Helping executors/ personal representatives to administer estates, including paying inheritance to beneficiaries and drafting estate accounts
  • Administering estates on behalf of professional executors
  • Applying for grant of probate/ grants of representation
  • Administering intestate estates (where there is no will)
  • Helping clients to make and register lasting powers of attorney
  • Helping clients to make or update their wills
  • Advising clients as to inheritance tax planning
  • Advising clients as to trusts including discretionary trusts, life interest trusts and trusts for vulnerable people
  • Drafting deeds of variation when a beneficiary wants to redirect some or all of their inheritance for tax planning purposes

What do you enjoy about your work?

Private client work covers a number of areas of law and consequently the work can be quite varied. No two cases are the same and I enjoy the challenge of helping clients to find the right solutions to the legal and practical issues they have, whether that includes creating a life interest trust or discretionary trust, administering an estate, or making a will or lasting power of attorney.

I aim to help my clients understand exactly what is required, avoiding the use of legal jargon and especially with elderly or vulnerable clients. I also try to help them put their minds at rest if they are worried about something.
